East Midway is a neighborhood in the East Midtown area of Chicago.


East Midway consists of four subdivisions:
Du Page Court
Grand Avenue
Leo Street
Parker Boulevard
St. Augustine Court

Prior to the influx of Irish and Italian immigrants, this area, was already a working-class neighborhood with several factories located nearby, including the Todd and Shively Glass Factory, the American Tin Moulders Company, and the Edward L. Storz Company.

The eastern half of East Midway was annexed into the city of Chicago in 1899. By the 1920s, a large amount of factories were in operation, including the Stuart Cork Company, the Bucky Peters Company, the Wills Plumbing Company, and the Rex Tire and Rubber Company, while most of the homes were inhabited by working-class families. The population was predominantly Catholic, with a high percentage of Irish and Italian heritage.

A growing demand for “business services” and the Chicago Stock Exchange encouraged the development of new banking institutions, new office buildings, and commercial buildings. In the 1950s, a new wave of Irish and Italian immigrants moved into the neighborhood, leading to the development
